A fire caused by the blast was put out after several hours by the Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company’s own firefighters and regional firefighters before it was able to spread from the plant’s aromatics unit, the ISNA news agency reports.
A worker suffered minor injuries during the incident. Reuters reports that there has been no detail on whether the explosion has affected the plant’s production.
The explosion is the latest in a series of incidents that have occurred across Iran in recent months. Many have happened at sensitive sites including military sites and nuclear facilities.
