Grain Silo Explosion Injures One In Canada

Local news sites report that that firefighters were called to the scene at around 15:45 local time and arrived to find one person suffering from second-degree burns. The local fire department said an initial explosion was caused after a hatch was left open on the bottom of the silo. Once on the scene, firefighters closed the hatch and began to spray the container with water for almost four hours.

Vancouver’s Assistant Fire Chief tweeted that crews were on scene dealing with a “stubborn fire” which had the potential to be very dangerous due to the risk of further dust explosions. Assistant Fire Chief Sheldon Young added that the fire crews were doing a great job of soaking down the contents of the silo and monitoring for hot spots.
